Welcome to the Vance Birthplace State Historic Site! Learn about North Carolina mountain life and culture on this reconstructed plantation in the Reems Creek Valley. Tour a 1790s slave dwelling, several 19th century outbuildings, and the reconstructed log house of the Vance family. Explore the exhibit in our visitor center to learn more about the life of Zebulon Vance and his political impact on the state. We are a small family operated alpaca farm in the lovely Weaverville, NC. We are home to close to 25 alpacas, 2 Great Pryneese guard dogs, and 2 miniature guard donkey’s. Along with selling alpacas and offering mentoring support we also have a small farm store with products made here on the farm, we offer some of our barn space for small private parties, and we have multiple Open Houses throughout the year. French Broad Outfitters is a full-service river outfitter in Asheville, NC. With three in-town locations, we offer kayak, canoe, stand-up paddleboard, and tube trips on the third oldest river in the world.
Our outfitter store is a full-service kayak shop with anything that you would need for a day on the river. Our Hominy Creek location, open from Memorial Day to Labor Day, is a two-acre bar/playground situated on a peninsula with the French Broad.
Small Museum concentrating on the Dry Ridge and Weaverville NC with very interestng artifacts from various time periods. The best part is the knowledge of the curators. It is open very limited hours, free and a special visit.
Hiking Through a Rhododendron Tunnel on the Blue Ridge Parkway
Craggy Gardens offers one of the most dramatic viewpoints on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Stunning vistas of the Blue Ridge Mountains stretch far into Tennessee to the west and toward central North Carolina to the east. These views can be enjoyed from the parking area near the Craggy Gardens Visitor Center and along nearby hiking trails.
A large picnic area is popular with visitors. On clear nights, Craggy Gardens is also a perfect place for stargazing.
In early summer, Craggy Gardens becomes a mountain-sized bouquet when the rhododendron thickets on the upper heights cover the landscape in pink and purple. A favorite hiking trail, Craggy Pinnacle, leads hikers through a “tunnel” of rhododendron to the summit which offers 360-degree view. This 1.5 mile round trip is an easy walk.
Books, CDs, souvenirs, and a photographic display can be found in the Visitors Center, and restrooms are on premises. There is no food concession.

We are a small production brewery with a sweet little tasting area that is open on Fridays and Saturdays from 1-6 pm. We are closed on other days in order to brew or bottle. We are located in downtown Weaverville which is just 10 minutes from downtown Asheville.
We offer small pours and flights of both the beers that we have bottled as well as experimental small batches available only at the brewery. Chilled bottles are available for enjoying on or off premise as well.
The name Zebulon was chosen because it just sounds awesome, and it starts with a Z which is always cool. There is the famous explorer Zebulon Pike, and of course the USS Zebulon from Star Trek! We just think it sounds bad ass.
